FREE FOOD TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT COMMUNITY CENTER FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 2010
Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group Inc. , in conjuction with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma will be distributing emergency family food and household boxes to residents of Jackson County Friday August 27, from 11:00 am until 3:30 pm, or until food runs out.
To be eligible to receive these items, you must have a dependent child age 18 or under in the household and meet the income guidelines; or have a dependent chid age 18 or under in the household and participate in WIC, Soonercare, SNAP(formerly known as Food Stamps), or free or reduced-priced school meals.
Services provided are on a first-come, first served basis.
Individuals must present a Photo ID at the time of service and must be an adult member of the household. For more information, call 580-482-5040

EARLY HEAD START

Assistant Headstart Program Director Michael Balderas gave an update on The Early Head Start Program to the SOCAG Board during their June meeting. SOCAG received a federal stimulus grant to start centers in Jackson, Harmon, Greer, and Beckham counties; the program will enroll 72 participants from low-income families and has employed seven new classroom teachers and home visitors. SW OKLAHOMA ACTION RSVP PROGRAM
The RSVP Program is asking for deactivated cell phones, complete with batteries and chargers, for their Cell-Phones-For-Seniors-Program. Phones may be dropped off at the Altus RSVP office located on the first floor of The Towers at 101 E. Commerce or the Mangum RSVP office located at 215 North Oklahoma in Mangum.
ACMI HOUSE
A Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Educational Outreach Group is now available through ACMI House. For more information, call Brenda at ACMI House at 580-482-0650.
ACMI House is starting a teen dating violence and healthy relationship outreach group. ACMI House is also offering education and outreach group to children who have witnessed domestic violence. The Teen dating violence outreach group is for teenagers between ages 14-17. Outreach group for children who have witnessed domestic violence is for all ages. For more information, call 580-482-3800.
ACMI House is looking for volunteers to provide transportation to victims seeking shelter and volunteers for the Sexual Assault Response Team. Volunteers will receive free training and resource materials. For more information call 580-482-3800.

Navajo students, faculty, staff, and their families have conducted a resoundingly successful food drive. The drive was initiated by Navajo seniors Dillion Walker and Matt Newman, and freshman Kennady Nance. These three organizers made the event fun by making the drive into a scavenger hunt that involved the whole Navajo School. Nance, Newman, and Walker were assisted on delivery day by their faculty sponsors, Mr. Weston Winters and Mrs. Nichole Walker-Reed and other volunteer students Johnathon Norton and Jaime Garcia Lopez. FREE WEATHERIZATION
We are now seeking applications for the weatherization assistance program. SOCAG serves residents of Greer, Harmon, and Jackson counties. This year more funds are available for the weatherization assistance program than ever before, thanks in part to the Federal Economic Stimulus Package. These services can make homes more energy efficient and help lower energy bills, for low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities.
Qualification for the service is based primarily on income. Services are FREE for persons who qualify. The following are the annual income guidelines:

2 person household---$29,140.00
3 person household---$36,620.00
4 person household---$44,100.00
5 person household---$51,580.00
6 person household---$59,060.00
7 person household---$66,540.00
8 person household---$74,020.00
